I wish I was still relaxing at the Hilton Queenstown

After the disappointing stay at the Hilton Auckland, Mrs. Selfish and I decided to give the Hilton one last go at the Hilton Queenstown.

From everything we’d heard, Queenstown is the most beautiful city in New Zealand, and the Hilton Queenstown is one of the best hotels in the city.

Neither disappointed.

Getting there and Check In

Positioned directly on Lake Wakatipu and next to the airport, the Hilton Queenstown is a quick 10 minute drive from downtown Queenstown, giving it an intimate, private feeling and an amazing view.

The Hilton Queenstown is a category 7 hotel, so will cost you 50,000 HHonors points a night, or 20,000 HHonors points + $80 USD if you pay with cash and points like we did.

Check-in was smooth and fast. Thanks to Mrs. Selfish’s gold status, we were upgraded to a relaxation room, which I requested ahead of time via email. Score!

The Room

Simply put, the relaxation room is stunning, though the pictures don’t quite do it justice (yet another time I wish I had a wide angle lense). I was thankful we came during the winter, since the room came both with a fireplace…

…and an outdoor hot tub! Since the relaxation rooms are positioned right on the lake, you get an amazing view with the price of the room.

The bathroom is also quite spacious with matching sinks, a shower, and a stand alone bathtub.

The Grounds and Breakfast

In addition to the lake, the Hilton Queenstown’s grounds are quite lovely.

They have a pool on premises, and a small (but well stocked) gym.

If you’re a gold or diamond member, breakfast is included free of charge at your stay. Unfortunately, the Hilton Queenstown like the Hilton Bora Bora is yet another hotel that doesn’t include hot food free of charge – though you have the option of purchasing it for an additional $10 NZD.

The breakfast itself was ok, and included cereal, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt. They also had a juicer available for use, which I’d never seen before.

Conclusion

While the Hilton Auckland disappointed, the Hilton Queenstown completely blew me away. The grounds are beautiful, the service is impeccable, and the relaxation room is spectacular. If you’re planning on visiting Queenstown (which Mrs. Selfish will have more on tomorrow), a stay at the Hilton Queenstown is a must!
